Beacon Chain and BEP-2: legacy status and recovery limits
Understand the shutdown of BNB Beacon Chain and the dated limits of official recovery notices without attempting a recovery.
You will learn
- Distinguish the discontinued BNB Beacon Chain and BEP-2 context from BNB Smart Chain and BEP-20.
- Summarize what the dated official recovery notices say—and do not establish—about eligibility and available processes.
- Choose a safe evidence-first response to a fictional legacy balance without sharing keys, signing or submitting a transaction.

No account, wallet, funds or transaction are needed; this is a paper learning exercise.
Beacon Chain is a legacy network
BNB Chain's Fusion overview states that BNB Beacon Chain shut down on December 3, 2024 at block 385,251,927. The former Beacon Chain and BNB Smart Chain (BSC) had separate network functions. BSC continues as its own network; a wallet or exchange label mentioning BEP-2 does not mean the old Beacon ledger is still operating.
BEP-2 describes assets in the Beacon Chain context, while BEP-20 is a token-contract interface on BSC. They are not alternate spellings for one network or an interchangeable deposit instruction. Binance Exchange support is a separate product question and must be checked in current region-specific instructions.
Evidence: Beacon Chain shutdown overview · BEP20 token-contract interface specification
BNB Chain documents that Beacon Chain shut down on 2024-12-03 at block 385,251,927. The notice does not establish the status or recovery eligibility of an individual balance.
Used only for the BEP20 token-contract interface and the methods/events named in the specification. It does not prove that a particular deployed contract conforms, is authentic, safe, issued by a named party, backed by reserves or equivalent to an asset on another network. The file contains historical Beacon Chain wording that is not treated as current migration guidance.
Recovery notices describe a limited, dated process
The sunset plan, published June 29, 2026, stated that only BEP-2 tokens mirrored to BEP-20 on BSC were eligible within that plan's scope; it said unmirrored tokens were ineligible. Treat that as a dated statement from the plan, not a complete current eligibility rule: BNB Chain's later Phase 3 notice describes its self-service tool for BEP-2 or BEP-8 tokens. Neither notice proves that a particular asset is included, that someone controls the required account, or that recovery will succeed.
A post-Fusion FAQ dated April 25, 2025 warned that some BEP-2/BEP-8 assets not mirrored or bound to BSC would be locked after the final sunset. That historical warning describes a category, not the state or recovery result of a particular balance; use the later notices for their separately dated recovery scope.
Checked on October 26, 2026: the Phase 3 notice says the hosted recovery tool was discontinued effective July 1, 2026 and points to a self-service process. The notice contains operational steps, but this page intentionally does not reproduce them or link to a signing flow. Status and individual eligibility must be checked separately against current official notices; this guide does not assess either for a real balance.

The published plan says only BEP-2 tokens mirrored to BEP-20 on BSC were eligible in its stated scope; unmirrored assets were ineligible. The plan is historical and does not prove eligibility or present recoverability for a particular user.
The dated notice says the hosted recovery tool was discontinued effective 2026-07-01 and describes a self-service tool for BEP-2 or BEP-8. This is a status description, not proof of individual asset eligibility or recovery success. The education page deliberately omits setup, signing and transaction instructions.
This FAQ describes post-Fusion categories and risks. It is not an individual eligibility result or promise that funds can be restored.
Solved fictional case: a BEP-2 ticker appears in an old note
Fictional case, no real account: a learner finds an old note saying `25 ABC on Beacon`. It contains no chain address, token contract, mirror record, transaction hash or current service notice. The number 25 and symbol ABC establish only what the note claimed at the time; they do not establish ownership, a current balance or recovery eligibility.
Resolved answer: classify it as an unverified historical claim. Do not send an equivalent-looking BEP-20 token or assume the same ticker is a replacement. Preserve the note and any transaction references, compare them with official BNB Chain Fusion and recovery notices, and seek qualified help if real value may be involved. No recovery attempt has been made and none is promised.

Do not turn a legacy question into a new signing risk
A request for a seed phrase, private key, remote-control session or unexplained signature is not made trustworthy by using the words Beacon, BEP-2, recovery or Binance. Never disclose a recovery phrase. Do not sign a message or transaction just to test eligibility, and do not rely on a direct message or search advertisement as the source of a tool link.
For a real case, verify the current announcement on the official BNB Chain documentation domain and identify which network and asset the original record belongs to before deciding anything. The official material may describe a self-service procedure, but technical ability, asset eligibility and a safe personal recovery are distinct questions. This guide is status education, not recovery advice or a guarantee.

Check your understanding
A fictional note shows 25 ABC on Beacon and the same ticker exists as a BEP-20 token. Does that prove the old balance can be recovered as that token?
Show explanation
No. A matching ticker does not prove mirroring, ownership or eligibility. The official scope was limited and dated; check current official notices without sharing keys or signing anything.
